Illegal buildingsPune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has recently carried out a demolition drive of illegal constructions in the city.

The illegal constructions were standing tall in KarveNagar, Warje, Wanowrie and Kondhwa in Pune. These buildings were spread across 40,000 square feet.

The KarvenagarWarje ward office and the deputy commissioner office of Wanowrie and Kondhwa initiated the demolition drive.

A RCC construction of two storeys was demolished in Karve Nagar. The drive also includes demolition of other commercial buildings in the area. A total of 35 illegal buildings were razed by the municipal staff which were spread over 18,000 square feet.

Also, an action was taken against 44 illegal properties in Kondhwa and Wanworie areas. Unauthorized constructions included commercial and residential properties in Salunke Vihar and Fatima Nagar.

Furthermore, action were taken against illegal hawkers and stalls on Satara Road in Pune.

The civic body had earlier announced to keep a check on these type of illegal constructions and encroachments from now onwards. The building department of PMC had already warned the citizens and buyers not to buy such flats which do not have proper layout and building approvals.

Furthermore, PMC has again requested the state government to set special police stations to take such civic crimes. Such stations will lodge cases against Bombay Provincial Municipal Act (BPMC) and Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, 1966.

With the increasing cases and burden on police, they are not able to concentrate on crimes like encroachments and violation of the BPMC and MRTP Acts.
