Pourakarmika’s hunger strike open eyes of government!
As read earlier about the protest staged by Town Municipality Pourakarmika Union has made government realize the worth of BBMP municipal workers.
In such a huge city like Bangalore there is lot of garbage left unattended since years with the regular work of pourakarmikas.
Now that the Pourakarmika Union has called off for a hunger strike, the government is worried about the city again being filled with overflowing garbage.
To make the government realize the implementation of minimum wages for contract pourakarmikas, around 8,000 of them staged a protest at Freedom Park previous week.
However, later the Union president say that the government has agreed to avail benefit for around 35,000 contract pourakarmikas working under local bodies will be provided with minimum wage of Rs. 6,600.
Also, the BBMP’s Standing Committee for Public Health to disburse wages has agreed to pay pourakarmikas through cheques.
