Power to be generated from waste by GHMC
Coimbatore- The solid waste generated by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) can now be utilized for generating 40MV of power. The amount of municipal waste generated by GHMC is 3100 metric tonnes.
Municipal corporation’s Public, Private Partner (PPP) Ramky Enviro Engineers will set the power generation plant at Jawaharnagar dump yard in Kapra which is expected to be completed in a year.
On a conference of “Environmental Resource Conservation”, Special Commissioner asked people to use different bins to collect organic and inorganic waste. He added that both Central and State governments should willingly help the municipal bodies to tackle solid waste and water pollution by providing funds.
It is assumed that government can provide one per cent of revenue to civic bodies once Goods and Service tax come into practice uniformly worldwide. This will help the corporation to meet capital costs for sustainable development technology.
Director General of Environment Protection & Training Institute of India (EPTRI) A.K. Parida feels that our country and industry have to ensure sustainable growth of 8 to 9 percent. He also advised to bring clean technologies in the industry.
