Prime Bandra plot for Herald Co. At interest-free loan – Congress in trouble
The Congress is mired in controversies. Besides allegations that it gave an interest-free loan to Associated Journals Ltd. With an eye on real estate assets, recent discoveries have revealed that the company that owns the now-defunct National Herald and Quami Awaz had been allotted a prime plot of land in 1983.
Information accessed through the RTI has revealed that erstwhile revenue minister of Maharashtra, Ashok Chavan, during his tenure had waived off Rs. 3.75 crore due from Associated Journals in 2001.The land, with a market rate of Rs. 250 crore, was leased at Rs. 1.31 crore for thirty years.
President of Congress, Sonia Gandhi, and son Rahul Gandhi have been summoned by a Delhi court in response to a complaint filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy. The complainant alleges that the Gandhi family-controlled Young Indian Ltd. Was given an unsecured loan by the Congress to acquire National Herald’s holding company, Associated Journals.
Misappropriation of assets worth Rs. 2000 crore has been alleged, mentioning how Associated Journals managed to obtain repeated extensions for its lease, which expires on December 22nd. The Congress has been dismissive of these claims.
