Private equity fund rises

The improvement in the business sentiment private equity (PE) funds are hopefully going to get more investments from the domestic ultra high net worth individuals (UHNIs) who have increasingly been shifting their allocation to the riskier asset classes. Most of all these investments will be in the PEs that has been focusing on sectors like real estate, IT, pharma and financial services.

It is being estimated that the private equity and venture funds are likely to rise around Rs 7,000-8000 crore from the domestic market. It is also being expected that a large amount of the funds will come from the ultra high net worth individuals (UHNIs) who have been lately looking at the PE as a new investment arena.

The Kotak wealth management report that was released last day stated that the PE investment is emeriging as a new investment asset class especially for UHNIs in order to diversify their portfolio. Real estate, IT, pharma and financial services have been emerging as the preferred sectors for the PE investments. In the year 2013, real estate private equity funds raised from the domestic investors is around Rs 5,000-6,000 crore. Private equity and venture funds have been benefiting from this.
