Property survey ongoing in Karnataka urban centres

The Department of Survey Settlement and Land Records is in the process of collecting documents related to them after measuring the properties in these centres.

The Revenue Department is creating property ownership records for properties located in various urban centres in Karnataka under the UPOR project. It will have details such as shape and the area of property and various encumbrances on it.

The department has collected documents for nearly 50 per cent of the properties in Mysore and Shimoga, and around 55 per cent of properties in Mangalore said V Ponnuraj, Commissioner, Department of Survey Settlement and Land Records.

It took around one year to collect these documents in Mangalore. He said that the department crossed the 50 per cent mark in Shimoga and Mysore in four years time.

The document collection was quicker in Mangalore compared to the other two centres.

Issue of cards

Details such as ownership, liabilities (if any), rights and map of the property concerned are included in the card, to be issued under this project.

The department will issue UPOR cards in Mangalore once it gets 70 per cent of the documents from the property owners. After wghich, the card will be used as a valid document for transactions related to the property.

He said that basically, the UPOR card is a mirror image of the property on ground in digital format.

He said it provides accurate spatial and updated ownership data of all properties on the advantage of having card under this project.

The card instils confidence in property transactions and ensures speedy services in banks and other agencies apart from providing secured ownership documents to the owners.
