BBMPThe biogas plant project proposed by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in Bangalore is not ready till now. Palike officials said that six more months will be required to complete the project. The plant designs to convert tonnes of waste generated at Krishna Raja Market to power.

The BBMP will provide 600 square meters of space at the market for building the plant. Around 100 tonnes of both wet and dry waste is generated on a daily basis in the market. Besides this, the garbage pile goes up to 300 tonnes during festivals. This waste is cleared daily twice from the market.

The civic body has roped in Mumbai-based Ashoka Biogreen Private Limited in December 2012 to set up the plant. The total cost of the plant was said to be Rs 1.04 crore.

Ashoka Biogreen Private Limited has been assigned with the responsibility of setting up the plant and they will have the responsibility of maintaining the plant for three years.

BBMP is planning to tie up with hotels in the surrounding areas to supply gas generated from the plant. But they are yet to discuss about this with the hotels. This will be viable for BBMP as well.

Most of the traders are not aware of the proposed plant. Garbage is scattered everywhere in the market mainly under the flyover and Jumma Masjid Road. But once the biogas plant is ready, it will be a great help to all the shopkeepers and the visitors.
