Provision of houses for slum-dwellers
If the state housing department nods, all the slum families in Mumbai city will be granted a house each.
Prior to the orders passed on January 1, 1995; the slum dwellers will have to bear 50 percent of construction costs with the eligibility of free houses.
A new chapter in the Maharashtra Slum Act, 1971 has been revised to make further legal provisions.
Now that the Brihanmumbai Mumbai Corporation (BMC) elections are coming up, the government will have to decide on permit dwelling rights to all slums.
