Pune: MLAs seek effective government policy for regularizing illegal constructions
In their demand to the Maharashtra government, the MLAs from Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad have sought the roll out of an effective policy with regard to regularization of illegal constructions.
Asking the government to take a call on a policy for regularizing illegal constructions, Vadgaonsheri MLA Bapu Pathare said – during a recent assembly debate on the matter – that the government needs to frame a policy keeping in mind the fact that “hundreds of citizens” live in illegal constructions across the city of Pune.
Pathare asserted that “a comprehensive policy” on illegal construction has to be worked out by the government after taking “all aspects” into account.
Expressing a similar opinion, Pimpri Chinchwad MLA Vilas Lande said that residents living in illegal constructions have been suffering because of the delay made by the government in framing a policy. Lande said: “The state should decide if it wants to legalise all such constructions or find another solution.”
Meanwhile, against the backdrop of illegal constructions, experts claim that it has essentially been the scramble for affordable homes which has resulted in the emergence of numerous illegal constructions in the fringe areas where gram panchayats have sanctioned the building plans.
Experts have pointed out that, in the fringe and merged villages, there is blatant violation of the 0.4 Floor Space Index (FSI).
