Pune: Nearly 26 crore land records from all districts to be scanned by Maharashtra govt

In a project aimed at digitalizing land records in Pune, the Maharashtra government has plans underway to scan the land records of all the districts.

The project will involve the scanning of approximately 26 crore documents pertaining to all land-related records in all the districts of Pune. The process will help the authorities at the state and tehsil level in preserving the land records in a digital format.

The implementation of the project is being overseen by Maharashtra’s revenue minister Balasaheb Thorat. About the project, Thorat said in a Saturday statement that the government plans to undertake the ‘land record scanning’ process in a phased manner in every district.

Thorat revealed that the pilot project pertaining to the scanning of land records has been implemented in Haveli taluka in Pune district. He also handed out scanned copies of land records to residents of the Haveli taluka at a function organized in Pune.

Noting that scanning of land records will prevent the deterioration of records and also make them easily accessible by officials at the revenue offices, Thorat said: “The scanning and digitization would not only preserve the records, but also reduce time for people who spend many days searching for records and obtain copies from revenue offices. Citizens will be able to get them in a few hours.”
