PWD Secretary and Home Minister to discuss PWD’s plans for 23 new roads and flyovers
The scheduled meeting between the Union Home Minister and the Secretary of the Public Works Department (PWD) in New Delhi in the coming days will largely involve a discussion about plans for new roads and flyovers.
With the new Government headed by prime Minister Narendra Modi having come into power at the Centre, most of the civic agencies hopeful of a projected fast-tracking of a number of projects which have been on the back-burner for the last few years.
The projects which the PWD has listed in its agenda include the construction of more than 23 new roads and flyovers. The estimated cost of the roads and flyover projects listed by PWD will involve an estimated spending of over Rs 16,000 crore till 2020.
According to the information shared by an unidentified PWD source, the agency has – for its planned new roads and flyovers – projected a budget demand for Rs 16,165 crore from 2014 till 2020. The source revealed that the projects on PWD’s list include those projects for which clearances have been received but tenders have still to be floated. One such project is the parallel flyover at Rao Tula Ram Marg.
Further revealing that a number of other new projects have been “planned for decongestion of arterial roads and improvement of corridors,” the source said: “A projection of Rs 2,000 crore has also been made for the ongoing projects, spread over the next three years.”
