PWD told to share project info online

No Comments Sub Category:Realty News Posted On: Feb 10, 2014

In the light of increasing complaints of poor roads and massive corruption in relaying of roads piling up with the government, the PWD minister Manish Sisodia has instructed the agency to put up details of all road construction and maintenance projects costing over Rs 10 lakh on their website, so that they can be monitored by the public.

PWD has been issued directions to make information of all such projects since April 2013 available on PWD’s website. “PWD has more than 1,200km of roads under it. Monitoring work across such a wide network is difficult. If the information is made available online then people can keep a tab on the work,” said Manish Sisodia.

Increasing expenditure that runs into hundreds of Crores in road laying and maintenance work and several stretches are laid over and over again over a span of a few years have led to this step. At some places it is because the material is so poor that the first rain washes away the road while in other areas money is wasted by relaying a perfectly good road.

Sisodia’s Rs 10 lakh benchmark will mean that data for each project will be put online since the minimum amount spent on such work is Rs 1 crore. “PWD already uploads information on projects over Rs 10 crore,” said PWD sources.
