Rainwater harvesting mandatory for buildings in Delhi
The Delhi cabinet has approved a proposal to make rainwater harvesting system mandatory for all new buildings in the city.
The government has asked the Delhi Jal Board to come up with the guidelines on the issue.
Earlier, the government had proposed that proper water connection should be issued to the buildings which are equipped with rain water harvesting system.
Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit said that the government will first start with all big buildings which includes government, institutional and private buildings and then go to private houses.
The Cabinet will also revise the guidelines for MLA Local Area Development Scheme 2012, to allot 25 percent of the allotted Rs.4 crore for water and sanitation work annually.
The scheme will not include NDMC and Delhi Cantonment areas.
