Rajiv Gandhi Education City

In December, the foundation stone for the extension campus of IIT-Delhi at Kundli and Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) at Kilhorad village in Sonipat was laid by Union minister Pallam Raju and Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. IIT-Delhi’s extension campus at Rajiv Gandhi Education City in Kundli would have a science and technology park, a high-performance computing facility, and a faculty development centre and is being set up at a cost of Rs 500 crore.

The Haryana CM said, the IIT to be set up at Kilhorad will be the 11th such institute in the country and first institute in a rural area and would cost Rs 128 crore and. At Rajiv Gandhi Education City a National Law University and National Tourism University would also be set up, the CM said.

The Haryana CM also said that when fully developed Rajiv Gandhi Education City would be the sole largest higher education complex in the world, with nearly 1.5 lakh students in 10 universities.

Kamal Taneja, the MD of TDI Infracorp, says: “The Rajiv Gandhi Education City at Kundli-Sonipat has been planned as an international centre for advanced learning and a hub for research in leading edge technologies like nanotechnology, biotechnology, genetics, engineering, medicine, etc. 10 educational institutions will come up in Rajiv Gandhi Education City, together with a 50 acre extension campus of IIT-Delhi, according to the Haryana government. You can visualize the impact this expansion will have on the development of the Kundli-Sonipat region. In the near future the area is set to compete with Gurgaon as a major real estate hub.”

Ashoka University, Bharti Vidyapeeth Universities (Pune), SRM University and Medical College (Chennai), Sky Line Business School, NC College of Engineering and Research, Hindu School of Architecture, BRI Institute of Technology and Research, etc are some of the other institutes opening their centres at Rajiv Gandhi Education City. Almost 2,007 acres has already been acquired for the education city’s campus.
