Real estate companies are trying to save Brands from getting breached

The real estate developers in India have started facing infringement of their brand names established over the years due to the joining of their counterparts in the sectors like pharmaceuticals and consumer goods that are known to make serious efforts to promote and protect their brands. Recently the developers like Hiranandani, Orbit, Kalpataru and HCC have reacted to secure their brands.

The real estate tycoon Mr. Niranjan Hiranandani moved the court to stop his daughter Priya Hiranandani Vandrevala from using the name ‘Hiranandani’ in her business. The developer is also looking for the compensation of Rs 50 crore for damaging the copyright and trademark by Hiranandani Living Pvt Ltd (HLPL).  In another case the Mumbai based Orbit Corp managed an out of court settlement.

Mr. Pujit Aggarwal, managing director and chief executive of Orbit Corp, says that how could they allow someone to use their name. They are the listed company on the stock exchange and we have registered our brand since 1973.

The developers say that due to increase in the competition the brand name plays an important role.

Ms. Tina Jain Mehta, founder of Pineapple Consulting, a brand consulting and design firm says that it will is no surprise that the real estate developers are securing themselves against any misuse of their brand names.
