Real estate firms revisiting strategies
The real estate firms are revisiting strategies for development in India’s smaller cities.
Various firms have been pursuing varied strategies on the backdrop of a realty slowdown. Some large developers are sticking to bigger cities while discontinuing project plans in smaller towns.
Some firms are switching from premium to affordable homes to generate sales and mixing retail and hotels with residential projects to boost demand. The aim seems to be to distribute risks across various segments.
Although there were speculations that smaller cities are likely to offer better growth prospects and price stability for developers as well as end users than large markets such as Mumbai which are being hit by drop in sales and escalating prices, the real estate in small cities have not really taken off as yet.
Few developers have halted further projects in cities like Ahmedabad and Mangalore after demand for launched units witnessed a wane.
