Rebuilding of demolished illegal structures resumes
Even the death of five persons in the building collapse incident at Kalupur and a so-called crack down on unscrupulous builders has failed to deter illegal constructions from resuming. AMC woke up to the illegal building business after five people were killed in the building collapse on Friday. Civic authorities have demolished more than 25 illegal buildings in Kalupur, Shahpur, Dariapur and Khadia. An under-construction four-storey building in a narrow lane besides the ill-fated building in Saudagar ni Pol was demolished in two phases on Saturday and Sunday. But the builder started construction on these building again on Wednesday.
A huge number of construction labourers worked with remarkable precision and speed to rebuild the demolished, illegal structures. Painting and white-washing work too was on in full-swing, showing total disregard to the AMC’s crackdown. The residents now fear that once the building work is finished, occupants will start coming and the building would stay there for years.
“He has now doubled the pace of construction work. I see more labourers then before working on the site. Even as work is on inside, men are whitewashing the building from outside,” said a resident of Saudagar ni Pol who stays right next to the illegal building.
“We can’t complain as builder of the building was earlier a notorious bootlegger and pickpocket. But we also can’t stay in peace with this tower of death standing tall near our houses,” said another resident of Saudagar ni Pol.
Hi-tech cutters to stop construction
Crack down on unscrupulous builders has failed to deter illegal constructions from resuming as the buildings, which were partially demolished by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), saw hectic activities.
“Since these contractors seem to be indulging in reconstruction of these illegal structures, we got cutters to end the rebuilding. It is impossible to completely raze the buildings to the ground, as they are situated in narrow alleys. Cutting its beams will be a better solution to stop these builders,” said officials.
Civic body officials have deployed firemen and private contractors armed with heavy-duty cutters to chop off beams from these illegal buildings.

How much he (Hemachandra) charges for that, whats my observation is that first he asks for size/bedrooms of flat/home depending on that he tells his rate. But I dont understand how it is linked with meter transfer because that is same for all (seems he checks the paying capacity first). whats your opinion.

I checked for indeminity bond in bescm office. They asked me to purchase from nearby electric contractors association and they are charging Rs.500 for bond.
The address on my e-bill after BESCOM connection transfer was not entirely correct. Mr Hemachandra followed-up the matter with BESCOM and got the address corrected to my satisfaction. He is a gentleman to the core and not money-minded. My thumbs-up for him for such BESCOM works!
