Redevelopment of govt colonies likely to gather pace under new Government
With Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led new Government taking charge at the Centre, it is widely expected that the pace of revamp of government colonies in Delhi will apparently be accelerated.
The speculations about a push to the development of government colonies by the new Government have prompted the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) to begin engineering and preparation of the architectural plan for the revamp of government colonies in Delhi.
The NBCC will undertake the task of redeveloping government colonies in three areas – Netaji Nagar, Kasturba Nagar and Tyagraj Nagar.
With regard to the task involving the revamp of government colonies, NBCC officials have revealed that the move will lead to the creation of more flats for government employees; with a specific percentage of flats also to be offered to public sector undertakings.
Asserting that the government colonies which will be redeveloped by the NBCC will be “green complexes,” NBCC chief S K Mittal said that the company has already set an example by redeveloping two old colonies in New Moti Bagh.
With regard to that project, Mittal said that the NBCC gave back “a surplus of Rs 330.6 crore;” and added: “The project was developed on a concept of commercially utilizing a small part of the government land to generate resources to finance the housing project.”
