Residents condemn construction on drains
Some Juhu citizens have been fighting to save their area from being flooded.
The crisis came up after the civic storm water drains (SWD) department allowed a developer to cover and build a recreation ground on top of a section of Irla and Koldongri nullahs.
NGOs have joined hands with the residents in their protests against authorities. Save Open Spaces (SOS), a local NGO, alleges that the builder has colluded with the slum rehabilitation authority (SRA), Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority, the SWD and the development plan departments, to deprive the city of three recreation grounds (RGs) under the canopy of slum redevelopment.
