Residents of Basavanagar cry for better infrastructure

No Comments Sub Category:Bangalore,Cities,Civic Issues Posted On: Jan 02, 2013

Basavanagar roadBasavanagar is one of the fast developing areas of Vignana Nagar ward in Bangalore.  Basavanagar has become one of the wanted locality for people looking houses to rent. A number of builders have launched housing projects in the locality.

The real estate in Basavanagar is increasing as it is close to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and other public and private sector companies. However, there is no infrastructural development in this area. Many roads in Basavanagar are very narrow which need to be widened for smooth movement of vehicles.

The commuters traveling by the road between Vignana Nagar Junction and Basavanagar Bus Stand faces difficulty to travel. Motorists are facing tough time as the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) had taken up the laying of underground drainage pipes project which is going at a snail’s pace and traffic jams have become a daily feature.

The Basavanagar Bus Stand is at its worst condition as most of the space is occupied by private vehicles and there is hardly any space for parking of Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses. However, parking of private vehicles is banned at BMTC bus stands in the city.

During rainy season, people traveling by bus have to face inconvenience because the bus stand here lacks shelter. The commuters have requested the corporator to construct a bus shelter, but still now nothing has been done.

Meanwhile, Vignana Nagar corporator Geeta Vivekananda requested BBMP commissioner to sanction funds for the development work. The corporator said that the BBMP has plans to widen the road between Vignana Nagar and Basavanagar.
