Residents set up CCTV cameras in Chennai
In order to facilitate 24-hour surveillance, residents of TVS Colony and Officer’s Colony in Anna Nagar Western Extension have collectively collected Rs 10 lakh from their own pockets to set up 14 CCTV cameras.
The surveillance system consists of eight hi-focus speed dome cameras and six fixed cameras covering a radius of three kilometres around the area.
The initiative was facilitated by the Anna Nagar Western Extension Phase 2 Residents’ Welfare Association.
M S Dhas, secretary of the RWA, expressed his views that crimes will be decreased as a result of the step taken by the society.
The police welcomed the move by RWA and stressed that maintenance was the key to sustain such facilities.
