Rising prices of house materials acting as deterent
The fate of the dream project of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav of providing houses to weaker sections of the society hangs in balance due to escalated cost of building material. The authorities of Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) had floated tenders for the construction of houses twice but due to old rates, contractors refused to make bid. KDA is preparing fresh tenders for the project.
The state government had asked KDA to construct 7,400 houses. Out of these, 4,000 would be for economic weaker section (EWS) and 1,600 for lower income group. The state had also asked to construct 1,000 MIG and 800 HIG houses.
The chief minister had declared Shatabdi Nagar Plan on October 13, 2013 and asked to construct 1,248 houses for low income group, 1,936 for economically weaker sections of the society and had laid the foundation stone of the project.
It would really be a problem to construct houses for the weaker section due to the rising prices of the house materials. The state government has however been trying to figure out measures which could make the dream project of providing houses for weaker section possible.
