Rs. 200 crore to be invested on road projects, closing down Toll Plazas

No Comments Sub Category:Infrastructure,Realty News Posted On: Nov 26, 2014

The Maharashtra Government is planning to indulge into road projects of Rs. 200 crore but not including Toll plazas. They are even planning to close about 50 toll plazas in the next two months.

The roads that can be constructed at price lesser than Rs. 200 crore can easily be dealt by the Public Works Department (PWD) and will not be with the private contractors. These projects will also not include toll. This step is taken keeping in view the plight of the common man. This is what was told by the PWD minister, Chandrakant Patil. The PWD is also thinking of closing down certain toll plazas and get hands on a little amount pending that can appease the private contractors.

The toll tax plazas had been a burden for common folks for over years. Hence it is decided that any road project below Rs. 200 crore will be conducted by PWD  instead of any private contractor. The Government is also planning to seize down certain toll centres that are about to complete their reign of collection or have even less than Rs. 10 crore pending to the contractors. There are about 40-50 of such toll nakas which will be shut down in less than two months.

A chief engineers committee is set up to scrutinize such toll nakas and submit a review on these toll nakas in 20 days time. Revenue of Rs. 26,000 crore is gained from the existing 121 toll nakas in the state. The new policy is in favour of the common man to relief their stress as well as makes a new mode of income after destroying the toll plazas. The Government of Maharashtra is considering a proposal in which the terms say to stop charging any four-wheeler. This means that no tax will be collected at the toll from any four-wheeled car. The amount in return will be extracted from trucks or lorry. But Patil is still not sure about the feasibility of this plan hence it is still to be implied.
