Till November 2012 the Kolkata Municipal Corporation has collected Rs 362 crores as property tax compared to Rs 317 crore in the same period last year.

Debabrata Majumder, Member Mayor-in Council (MMIC) Revenue told that they have set a goal for collecting a minimum amount of Rs 700 crores property tax in this financial year.

The amount may rise to Rs 1500 crores if they are able to evaluate all the unassessed properties.

There are around 6. 5 lakh estimated in the KMC records yet another 70,000 properties are newly added areas like Behala, Jadavpur in the KMC area, MMIC-Revenue told the House.

The Assessment Collection department has been asked to take the help of the local councillors to complete the assessment of the unassessed buildings at the earliest.

The civic body wants to introduce a new proposal of rental attachment. The civic body will reduce the property tax from the rent paid by the tenant to the property owner of a commercial property because the landlords or owners of many commercial attributes do not pay property taxes.
