On Wednesday, an amount of Rs 566 crore was sanctioned by the Delhi government for the setting up of the Indira Gandhi Hospital in Dwarka. The hospital will have 700-bed capacity.

About the benefits of setting up the 700-bed hospital in Dwarka, Arun Baroka – Principal Secretary (PWD) – said that the hospital will cater to the healthcare requirements of approximately 5 lakh people residing in West, North-West and neighbouring districts.

With the Rs 566-crore amount having been sanctioned by the Delhi government for the hospital, Baroka said that all the requisite formalities for the hospital have been completed; and construction is likely to begin in September 2014.

The projected timeline for the hospital to become operational is March 2017. The hospital will provide all clinical services such as diagnostics and treatment facilities, intensive care service, and emergency services. It will have two Operation Theatres for surgical and maternity cases.

The 700-bed hospital will be spread out over a plot area of 60,000 sqm. There will, broadly speaking, be three building blocks at the hospital — an Emergency block; and ‘Out patient’ department block; and a Ward block.

In addition, a part of the plot area for the hospital has also been earmarked for setting up a Medical College at the hospital complex in future.
