Rs 66 crore is demanded by KMC to take over 12 KDA colonies
The Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) is set to take over one dozen colonies developed by KDA more than 20 years back and had asked the authority to pay Rs 66 crores.
KMC and KDA jointly surveyed to witness the basic facilities in the colonies. The KMC executive engineer said that in those colonies roads were in bad condition. Water and sewer lines were faulty and electric poles were in dilapidated state. All those need immediate attention and there is possibility of new pipelines being laid there. For renovation of these colonies named as Gangapur Macharia, Swarn Jayanti Vihar Phase-1, 3 & 4 , Deen Dayal Puram, Vasudha Vihar, Jarouli phase-2 and Jarouli Extension, Vaishnavi Vihar, Vaidehi Vihar, Ara and Khandepur, the survey team had prepared a budget of Rs 66 crores.
The report of the joint committee with the proposal would be sent to KDA vice-chairman. These colonies were developed by the KDA 20 to 25 years back but did not transfer them to KMC. Recently, a number of residents had raised voice that they were not getting basic civic amenities despite of the fact that they were paying house tax and other taxes. The colonies were developed by the KDA and not transferred to the civic body, claimed the KMC officials.
