Rs 9,477 crore projects to be implemented in Bangalore
Recently Chief minister Siddaramaiah presented the budget and announced that projects worth Rs 9,477 crore, to be implemented through the BBMP and the BDA, up from Rs 5,540 crore last year.
The roads in Bangalore have been in miserable condition, adding to traffic woes in the city. City roads have been allocated Rs. 500 crore, up by 66% when compared to last year. Under Tender Sure model, Rs. 300 crore will be spent on 12 main roads.
The Peripheral Ring Road (PRR), worth Rs 5,800-crore, is receiving a lot of attention. This road skirts the city between Hosur Road and Tumkur Road via Old Madras Road and Bellary Road. This is likely to reduce traffic problems.
However, some of the plans proposed by the state government last year could not take off due to opposition by the citizens. This year there are proposals two other elevated roads: from Chalukya Circle to Hebbal Junction; and from Alisda, near Jalahalli, to BEL Circle at nearly Rs 1,300 crore.
The city plans to have CNG use in public vehicles soon. The budget plans to tax, yet again, on the alcoholic beverages. It will now attract a 5.5% VAT, in addition to the existing 4.94% service tax.
