RTI being used to search for Building Plans in Maha
There is a growing interest amongst citizens of Mumbai to know more about the place they live in, they want the building details, plans, dealings of land and property, and civic issue information too. It is mostly that civic and property issues are searched for using the arm of the Right to Information act, and the urban development department responsible for civic affairs is now obliging the same
The increase in such demands being applied for is from ten to twenty percent, which only goes to show how aware people are, and the lack of important information on government websites too. Government officials are being swarmed with such applications and are also reluctant to provide the information being demanded too. However, activists and RTI applicants are still happy about the way things have worked so far for them.
Last year there were around 1.24 lakh applications brought forth using the strong arm of RTI, of which forty percent were by mumbai citizens wanting to know their building plans. This is what should be put up at the BMC website, says a source, knowing fully well that the demand for the same is high. When people are asking for the building info on many counts, why then should they run and apply for the same using RTI every time, says a source.
The process for the same by the BMC has already begun and in time would be let out to the public too.
