RWAs in Mohali oppose burning of leaves
An environmental researcher, Arshinder Pasricha, has been raising her voice against residents’ burning of leaves practice in Mohali for the past couple of months. Few of the Resident Welfare Associations have also joined her in this effort.
She says that usually, the employees of the Municipal Corporation burn leaves and other related stuff. But now, many residents are also following the same thing.
Though Arshinder has given complaints to local authorities and personal hearings have been carried out, it seems to have no effect on the residents.
Residents of sector 67 and secretary of RWA, Hardev singh, said that the MC workers do not want to take trouble of lifting up the fallen leaves and other solid stuff, so they burn the leaves and reduce their work.
Residents of sector 70 and member of the RWA, Nirmal Singh, said that they will support Arshinder in this regard and spread awareness in people about the effects of burning leaves on environment. They added that lack of awareness is the major reason that paves way to the residents to such practices.
