RWAs not sure about ward committees
Civic society members have raised their concerns on the constitution of the ward committees and transparency in their functioning as the Karnataka High Court directed the BBMP to form ward committees before 21st January. An NGO in association with several RWAs, had called for a workshop on ward committees.
A higher official from Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike said that the RWAs can draft the bylaws for ward committees to be submitted to the council and the government.
The ward committee can be re-constituted any number of times and the RWAs will have several opportunities to be the part of the same. The power of the ward committees and the draft made by the RWAs on the duties will be given to the council.
Civic society members raised their concern on the selection procedure for ward committees and its functioning. Some of the corporators have already submitted the list of members appointed in their wards for ward committees.
A member of Koramangala RWA said that the functioning is more important than the members of the committee. How and who become the members of ward committees do not matter, what matters is that they must be formed in the first place.
