Sahar elevated road and Mumbai international airport T2 now open for public
Sahar elevated road corridor and Terminal 2 of the Mumbai international airport was opened for the public on Feb 11. Sahar elevated road is a 2.2 km stretch connecting Western Express Highway (WEH) with the new Terminal 2 of the International Airport. It was inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan. He pointed out that the traffic problems of the city are expected to be addressed through these developments.
The road project offers offers seamless and signal-free connectivity from Western Express Highway. The Rs. 400 crore project will cut the travel time by around 30 minutes. This project had missed seujveral deadlines earlier.–
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and the state government are trying to speed up other delayed projects. He cited the progress made in the Mumbai metro project. The Santacruz-Chembur Link Road is likely to commence operations in the next 2-3 weeks. Similarly, Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar will be open to vehicles in the next month and the work on third metro-Colaba-SEEPZ is likely to start soon.
The state government seeks Rs 12,500 crore from the 14th Finance Commission for infrastructural projects in Mumbai. The idea is to make Mumbai an international city, Chavan informs.
