SDMC bans storing building materials on streets
The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has decided to impose fine on anyone found leaving construction material on the roadside as it may clog the drains during monsoons.
Mayor of SDMC, Savita Gupta, said that the decision was taken this week as the corporation has noticed that there is a mass of construction works being carried on at present in South Delhi.
Most of the builders leave cement, bricks and other construction materials on the streets which get carried away into the drains due to rain, resulting in waterlogging issues.
The ground staff has been set to eye on areas where construction works are going on. Builders and individuals will be intimated to store the construction materials in their own premises. In case they fail to follow, the staff will report to the senior officials and appropriate action will be taken against them.
The violators will be fined under the Delhi Municipal Act 1957 where the littering cost will be Rs 200, plus the removal charge. Once seized, the corporation will auction the materials and keep the money.
