Silt removal scam: CM to order probe
Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar is to order a probe into the alleged irregularities in the work taken up by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in removing silt from drains in the last three years.
CM stated this in response to the janata Dal (Secular) member M Srinivas’s allegations, which said payments had been made to contractors without even finding out whether they had completed the work. There was mismatch between the money paid and the actual quantum of silt removed from drains.
Srinivas said that even 40 per cent of the allotted work has not been completed by the contractors. But they were paid the entire amount.
CM said that the amount paid was Rs. 38.17 crore in the last three years which includes transportation cost of Rs. 6.16 crore.
Mr. Shettar said he would take steps to ensure smooth traffic at the Nayandahalli junction on Bangalore-Mysore state highway where works on an underpass as well as the metro rail have made commuting a nightmare for Bangaloreans.
