Slow work annoys residents of Chennai
Chennai- The slow work of Storm Water Drainage (SWD) project in Third Avenue, Indira Nagar, Adyar is troubling and annoying the general public.
This project in Adyar was initiated more than five months back. Its now difficult for people to walk as pavements and half of road space has been dug. Every second of the minute traffic ceases the way at the junction of Third and Second Avenue. Pedestrians and motorists are highly affected by this.
Over a month ago, a 100m huge trench was dug near the junction to 16th cross street to lay down the pipes. The entrance of this street is completely blocked which is forcing residents to reach home by nearby streets. Vehicles are not able to enter the road because of which people were facing many problems like during medical emergencies.
The contractors are not bothered to cover the road. The situation is worse that the standing water is now stinking badly housing many mosquitoes. The concerned authorities are not taking full charge thus the work is carried out very slow.
People agree that this Storm Water Drainage (SWD) is a very beneficial project but at the same time things should be carried out in a systematic manner. Many times residents of nearby area requested the authorities to increase the speed of work. Chairman of Zone 13, Chennai Corporation assured that the steps would be taken as early as possible.
