Smaller buildings to go green in Delhi

1 Comment Sub Category:Delhi-NCR,Realty News,Residential Real Estate Posted On: Sep 04, 2012

Emphasis on energy efficiency seems to be shifted to smaller buildings of late. In order to help smaller buildings in Delhi to reduce their carbon footprint, a special programme has been devised.

An offshoot of GRIHA – the green rating for integrated habitat assessment – SVAGRIHA has been conceptualised especially for buildings that are less than 2,500 sq m in size.

The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and new and renewable energy ministry have undertaken the programme.

Since cumulative contribution of energy consumption of small buildings to climate change forms a large chunk, the focused programme for special architecture is taken up to construct green building.

In India, about 30 per cent of the energy consumption is attributed to the buildings sector, out of which residential and commercial buildings contribute 24 per cent and 6 per cent respectively.
