Smart city projects to take off soon in different parts of India
The Centre is readying to invite bids for the Dholera investment region in Gujarat in the next three months to convert it into a smart city. The integrated industrial townships in Greater Noida and Vikram Udyogpuri in Madhya Pradesh along the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) are also under consideration for the centre to be transformed into smart cities.
By March next year all these projects will take some concrete shape and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of building smart cities seems to be becoming a reality soon. Talleen Kumar the CEO of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation stated that all these projects will take shape within the current financial year.
Kumar also mentioned that his team is ready to roll out two projects and an industrial zone. They are progressing very fast. The good news is that a lot of countries including Germany, UK, USA and Korea have shown interest to participate in the industrial townships. If the tie ups happen with these foreign countries, then the work will progress soon and the quality of work will be good as these nations already have many smart cities.
Japan is providing support of $4.5 billion in the first phase of these projects through lending by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). Kumar also added that the government would invite bids for another project, Shendra Bidkin industrial zone in Maharashtra, by mid-2015.
