Southern States and Union Territories are ahead in Urbanisation
The country’s urbanisation is being kept in mind by the Southern states of India and the Union Territories. The urban population of India has increased by around 27.80 percent from the total population in 2001 to around 31.10 percent in the year 2011. The information was provided by Urban Development Minister, M Venkaiah Naidu during a Lok Sabha session.
Four of the Southern States along with six Union Territories, Gujarat, Goa, Haryana, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura has helped in the growth, he added. According to the Indian players these states are becoming IT hubs and industrial parks which are leading to the urbanisation in these places. The quick approval in matters of mechanism is also a reason behind the growth.
Chairman of Credia, Lalit Kumar Jain stated that the Southern States look to have an improved set of rules and regulations. For example the FAR or FSI limits have been done away with by Andhra Pradesh. The approvals of work are also quicker. The Chief Operating Officer of Sare Homes, Vineet Relia stated that urbanisation occurs in places where economic drivers exist. He further mentioned according to them the biggest corridors are Gurgaon and Chennai.
