The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been approached by Sistema Shyam Teleservices (SSTL) – which operates under MTS brand – for providing free Wi-Fi Internet service to the Metro commuters.

SSTL has earlier provided its Wi-Fi Internet service for the commuters of Rapid Metro Rail trains. The move – resulting from a partnership between SSTL and Rapid MetroRail Gurgaon Ltd (RMGL) – has enabled free Wi-Fi services on all Rapid Metro Rail trains running on the 5.1km, 6-station corridor.

In addition, SSTL is also providing free Wi-Fi access on four out of six Metro stations of RMGL. All mobile subscribers can avail the service.

Against the backdrop of approaching DMRC for providing Wi-Fi service in Delhi Metro, SSTL CEO Dmitry Shukov said – in a recent statement made in New Delhi – that on-board Wi-Fi Internet service has already been successfully demonstrated by the company in the coaches of Rapid Metro Rail trains.

Shukov further added that, for providing a similar Wi-Fi facility in other trains, SSTL has now approached the concerned authorities in DMRC, Bangalore, Chennai and Jaipur Metro services.

Shukov said: “We have approached DMRC and for this service they don’t have to pay even a single penny. We will invest in infrastructure and service will be provided on revenue sharing basis.”
