Students protest against land grabbing by government

Comments(2) Sub Category:Other cities,Realty News Posted On: Jul 03, 2012

Protesting the forceful acquisition of 227 acres of land by the government to set up the proposed Indian Institute of Management (R) and Central Law University, the students, along with parents, have been sitting on a ‘dharna’ since March 4.

Though the villagers live in extreme poverty they are not academically weak. But due to the protest, many top students, without proper preparation, have failed in their matriculation and intermediate examinations.

The residents of 35 villages in Nagri block are involved in this protest. They say that the construction site is a fertile land where crops were being grown till recently. Thus, it is not correct to use the land for construction purpose. Instead barren land could be used by the government for this. The only motive of the government seems to grab tribal land and not development.

Former Jharkhand HRD minister and legislator from Mandar Bandhu Tirkey has expressed his opinion that it is equal to human rights violation. The students’ future is at risk because of the land issue.

The villagers hope that luck will come their way soon. They have decided to file a review petition in the apex court. The Supreme Court on Thursday had rejected a petition from a group of villagers who had challenged the order of the Jharkhand High Court.
