Supply gap of 31% in Ahmedabad mid-segment housing
The supply gap in mid-segment residential units in Ahmedabad has reached over 31 per cent.
The current emphasis seems to be towards high-end segment in the city. However, despite efforts to focus on the segment, high-end supply gap is also hovering at around 22 per cent, as per the latest report released by global real estate consultancy Cushman & Wakefield (C&W).
Analysts say that the total new demand that could be generated for residential dwellings in the period 2012-16 will be 11.8 million units across India, of which 18 per cent will be from the top 8 cities across different categories.
C&W states that Ahmedabad’s demand is driven largely by migrant population, along with indigenous growth in population and also re-settlers who intend to return to the city after being elsewhere across the globe.
