Talk to the wall on land acquisitions
Walking the talk of a promise and doing it are two different things, and the same can be seen when land acquisitions down south are spoken off. Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao dreamt of helping dalits overcome the hurdles of land reforms and other needs, but as promised the golden rule never came to fruition.
It was promised by the CM that by August 15th 2014, land would be distributed to the poor dalits, and around eighteen lakh dalits would benefit from the same. However, sleepless nights are being spent by the officials of the CM, since funding for the same is less and the scheme is large. This isn’t the only reason, since acquisitions for the same cost money and that would mean almost the whole coffer to be used before the next assembly session comes into place.
The desperate CM and the government now wants to implement schemes and have a way out, in a phased way, seeking help from central sources on funding as a token gesture, say sources. However, the revenue records which isn’t exactly in the hands of the government says it needs major land chunks fro the owners after they pay high compensation for the same, and in addition to that, litigation costs too would be high and hence a hindrance on acquisitions once again.
The NDA is known to have always brought out populist schemes now and then, but the government at the moment isn’t in a mood to do so, say sources. What would now the CM do? What would be the next best or big move? We have to wait and watch!
