The farmers oppose land acquisition by GDA, but want to give it to AIIMS

The farmers of Manbela are ready to give the disputed land for construction of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. They are having a dispute with Gorakhpur Development Authority (GDA) over 400 acres of farmland which the GDA wants to acquire for the construction of a residential colony.

The entire eastern belt of Uttar Pradesh is in the grip of encephalitis. This inflammation of the substance of the brain disease has taken a toll on the health of the residents of this area. Hence the locals want that construction of a hospital will bring a lot of relief to them. The construction of AIIMS which is one of the most prestigious medical institutes in India would go a long way in mitigating the sufferings of the people of the region.

Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti leader Barkat Ali mentioned that they protested against the forcible acquisition of their farming land by GDA. This land will be used for the development of residential colonies. However the farmers are ready to give the land for AIIMS because the entire area will be benefitted.

The place is suitable for construction of AIIMS as it is close to BRD Medical College.

Samajwadi Party leader K C Pandey stated that the issue of AIIMS in Gorakhpur was raised in a meeting with the Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. He has given an assurance to provide land for the purpose.
