The Kerala high court on Wednesday had questioned the stance of authorities in seeking action against DLF’s apartment complex near Chilavannoor backwaters after granting permission for construction.

Justice A Muhamed Mustaque had also questioned the stance of Kerala Coastal Zone Management Authority (KCZMA) and the government while considering a petition filed by the builder through senior counsel E K Nandakumar, DLF’s counsel Nalini Chidambaram argued that it was illegal on the part of government to grant permission for construction and then try to demolish it alleging violation of norms.

Opposing this, the state government submitted that a team led by the chief secretary had conducted an inspection of the site and found violations in construction of the apartment complex.

In a previous report an environment team had lodged a report against the DLF apartments stating that they were demolishing the coastal backwaters region and using it for construction of parking lots. The report suggested on further investigation. On investigating further it was found that the company was violating coastal laws and that actions needed to be taken in order to protect the Chilvanoor backwaters falling in to the hands of the demolishers.
