The Mahindra Group is one of the largest business conglomerates in the country and has recently pinned positive hopes on the Indian Government’s plan to build smart cities.
According to latest developments, the $16.5 billion conglomerate, Mahindra Group is placing high hopes on the Indian government’s recent plan to create smart cities. The Group has also acknowledged and appreciated the steps taken by the government with regard to liberalisation of foreign direct investments in the defence segment and also for the swift completion of procurements which were long pending.
According to the president of group strategy, SP Shukla, these smart cities would definitely be a wholly new thrust area for the Mahindra Group and the Group would definitely remain committed and dedicated towards making urban life more comfortable for residents of these cities. Shukla also emphasized on the fact that the Mahindra Group is steadily readying and positioning its IT, defence and real estate business divisions in preparation for these smart city projects. There is a lot of traction for the smart city project idea across states according to him.
According to Shukla who also heads the defence arm and innovation academy at the Mahindra Group, the government’s proposal to de-license multiple items in the list of defence production essentials is a positive move along with the raising of FDI ceilings for the entire sector at large. This, according to him, is definitely a huge boost for the industry overall. Alongside, he also remained firm on the boost given to industry through the signing off on many essential procurements in defence which had been pending for years at a stretch and were worth $13.1 billion in entirety. Shukla has hailed the growing positivity in the defence sector and talked about how all big players are immensely hopeful and excited with these changes.
As a result, Mahindra Defence Systems is presently involved in the execution of a one of a kind smart surveillance programme that allows police forces to monitor and track all city developments through video feeds in real times along with automation of particular enforcement actions such as traffic violation penalties and so on. This project is being executed in Lucknow for the Uttar Pradesh Police.
