The Tata-owned Indian Hotels Company Limited gets 4-month extension to operate Taj Mansingh
The Tata-owned Indian Hotels Company got another chance to operate the iconic Taj Mansingh hotel as the New Delhi Municipal Council did not have any feedback from the Solicitor General on the auction and the current lease expires on March 31.
Mr. Jalaj Srivastava, chairperson of NDMC, says that the council has decided to give a four-month extension, till July 31, to the IHCL for operating Taj Mansingh.
This is the fourth chance the IHCL has got an extension to run the hotel here in posh Lutyen’s Bungalow Zone.
Mr. Srivastava also says that they have not received any feedback from the office of Solicitor General that has to come via Home Ministry on whether the Taj should get the first right of refusal in the auction or not. He further mentioned that the council had sent the notice to the Home Ministry on February 14 this year asking them to “fasten the process” as the last date of the previous extension, March 31, was coming close.
The council was in the support of giving the first right of refusal, the Home Ministry was against it and suggested that this may attract lower bids
As the Home Ministry asked NDMC not to give IHCL the first right of refusal during the auction of the property, the civic body went to the Solicitor General to know his view on this issue.
As there has been no feedback from the Ministry, another problem that had to be faced in the auction process is the model code of conduct as Lok Sabha elections are approaching.
