Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, (KSPCB) along with Bangalore traffic police and resident welfare associations have taken the initiative to lower down noise pollution on the city roads. For this, a message ‘No Horn Monday’ has been circulated against the sound polluters.
Vaman Acharya, KSPCB chairman is planning to carry out the project in other areas of the Bangalore city after the success of the pilot project in Koramangala.
Every Monday volunteers will go to the traffic signals during peak hours and advice people not to honk unnecessarily. Traffic police will help the volunteers to spread the awareness. Till now civic body has booked 10,047 persons for shrill honks and 12,716 persons for defective silencers this year.
The civic body is planning to be more cautious so that the residents do not honk needlessly. MA Saleem, additional commissioner of police (traffic) said that they are still lacking behind with the equipment for calculating excessive honking or violating the decibel level.
