Twenty property owners fall victim of road-widening
If BBMP has its way, people staying near Tagore junction will lose parts of their property for widening of the service road and footpath. Around 20 private properties on the main road will have to do away with three metres of their space as the technical advisory committee (TAC) has instructed the BBMP to widen the road and footpath.
This is no good news for residents of Basavanagudi. If BBMP has its way,20 property owners will lose parts of their property for widening of the service road and footpath. Inspecting the stretch on Wednesday, major works committee chief H Ravindra said the service road needs to be widened.
“The TAC has told us so. We will have to acquire the front portion of 20 private properties and six government ones. The service roads, including the footpath, on either side of the underpass, will have to be widened by 3 metres. BBMP will give TDR to the property owners and we will convince them.”
The TAC conducted the inspection in November 2009 when the Tagore Circle underpass work began, despite public opposition. Ironically, the contractor concerned laid the narrow road recently and now the same stretch is being proposed for widening.
Angry residents plan to meet BBMP commissioner Siddaiah in an attempt to stop the road-widening move.
