Underground water depletion terrors Gurgaon constructions
Gurgaon’s underground water table has reached a significant low of 51 metres and the state has failed to check on this.
The water crisis which Gurgaon faced this summer is only going to get worse. The estimated demand is 200 million gallons per day (MGD), whereas Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) is able to supply only 51 MGD, forcing residents to rely on private water tankers.
The court has observed that the state is not bothered about boosting water supply, obtaining additional water or implementing water harvesting techniques. Surprisingly, as much as 60% of the city still does not have pipeline connectivity.
According to independent studies, every year the groundwater level is depleting at a rate of 3 metres. Environmentalists and residents hope that at least now the state will wake up to the city’s water needs.
Home-buyers are worried about this water issue. Real estate analysts say this may lead to further delay in housing projects, rising cost for the end-user. This will not just affect the new projects, but also those that are in progress.
