Union Urban Development Ministry prepares ‘Delhi beautification’ action plan
An action plan for the beautification of Delhi has been prepared by the Union Urban Development Ministry, which has asked different stakeholders to come up with short- and long-term programmes that can help beautify India’s capital city.
It was at a recently-held high-level meeting of various civic officials that Union Urban Development Secretary, Dr Sudhir Krishna, talked about the action plan for beautifying Delhi. Dr. Krishna – who chaired the meeting – discussed the measured undertaken by the Union Urban Development Ministry with regard to the ‘Delhi beautification’ action plan.
In a recent address to media persons in New Delhi, Dr. Krishna said that the planned drive to make Delhi a ‘world class city’ will necessitate the involvement of different agencies, including New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi Development Authority (DDA), and Central Public Works Department (CPWD).
The action plan prepared by the Union Urban Development Ministry chiefly includes improvement and beautification of roads, roundabouts, pedestrian pathways, parks, etc.
In addition, in accordance with the action plan, various water bodies located in Delhi will also be rejuvenated and beautified. Moreover, as per the information shared by Dr. Krishna, the Ministry will incentivize segregation of waste at the household level, and will “decentralize solid waste management instead of creating mega dumping grounds.”
