Validity of the SEZ projects extended in Odisha by the Centre
The validity of three SEZ projects has been increased by the Board of Approvals under the Union commerce and industry ministry by the Centre in Odisha. All the three SEZ projects had been endorsed by Sesa Sterlite, Saraf Agencies and Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Idco).
The BOA has also sent validity for approval so that manufacturing and exporting of aluminium can be carried out at Bhurkamunda in Jharsuguda by the 22nd of May, 2015. This was done for a special sector of the SEZ.
The company also made a request towards the Odisha government so that they allow the usage of power from 2400 Mw coal-fired plant of Sterlite Energy in order to run the smelter. A large sum of money has already been spent on the smelter complex. The commissioning of the multi product SEZ at Jharsuguda has been significantly delayed because the state specific SEZ policy had not been finalised.
There have also been a couple of suggestions made by the company that the development and establishment of the industries that are downstream in the area that adjoins the smelter should be made mandatory.
